In partnership with the Town of Andover (Andover DIVERSE), the Andover Baptist Church and the South Church Social Justice Coalition will be hosting the 2ndannual, town-wide Juneteenthcelebration on Saturday, June 18th at the Andover Robb Senior Center,30 Whittier Ct. from Noon to 3 pm. Everyone, of all ages, is welcome.
Juneteenth, a part of our American history, was made an official federal holiday last year. It celebrates the final freeing of enslaved people in Texas in 1865.This was a full 2 1/2 years after Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation when nearly 250,000 people were freed. Juneteenth is also a holiday celebrating Black achievement andresiliency.
Traditionally, families and communities keep the holiday with picnics, barbeques, contests, parades, and public ceremonies and observances.
In the spirit of 150 years of celebration, there will be noted speakers, educational exhibits, fun for children, and door prizes.

About Our Speaker:
Michael Henry is a native of Fayetteville North Carolina. He is a senior at Reid Ross Classical High School where he serves as student bodypresident and the president of the Future Business Leaders of America and the National Honor society clubs. He is the oldest of four. Michael has a passion for speaking and has received 1st place inthe Future Business Leaders of America Public Speaking competitions. He speaks at many events including the (Cumberland County) Board of Education, school, church(Opening and Closing ceremonies forschool, Step into Success event, Back to School community event, youth night, Easter Service, and the National Honor Society Induction Ceremony ), and more. His hobbies include shopping, traveling,helping others, and going to church. He is an active member of the Superintendent’s Student Voices Council, Academy of scholars, Key Club, Community Service Club, and School Improvement Team.Michael is ranked in the top five of his class and has a 4.3-grade point Average. Within his high school career, he has received over 18 awards and acknowledgments. Some of the awardsinclude being named the Future Business Leaders of America MVP Student of the year for three consecutive years received 2nd Runner Up in the Mr. Reid RossShowcase, and 1st place in the Future Business Leaders of America Public Speaking competitions, while maintaining the highest grade in his Latin and math class, and so many more. Michaelhas recently been crowned the title of Homecoming King at his school for this year. (2018) His plans after graduation in May are to attend an Ivy League School, specifically HarvardUniversity to major in political science. Most importantly he loves to serve God.
