Frances H. Breakwell

Sewickley

Frances H. Stevenson Breakwell, 93, of Sewickley, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2023, in her home.

She was born October 31, 1930, in Washington, a daughter of the late J. Andrew Stevenson and Helen Littrell Stevenson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Breakwell; and sister, Roberta Novick.

Frances was a 1948 graduate of Uniontown High School and a graduate of Allegheny General Hospital School of Nursing with the class of 1951.

On September 19, 1951 Frances married Robert Breakwell (who passed away in 2016) and they enjoyed a loving marriage of 64 plus years.

Frances worked as a nurse at Uniontown Hospital while Robert was serving overseas and stayed at home until all her children were in school. She then returned to nursing at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, N.Y. She also volunteered with the Penfield NY Volunteer Ambulance Corps. and was a Girl Scout leader. The family moved to Chicago, Ill. in 1971, where she worked as a nurse at Holy Family Hospital and later became a school nurse for the Arlington Heights School District, while returning to school and earning her B.S. Degree in 1976. The family moved to Syracuse, N.Y. in 1977, where she was a founding member and volunteer of Syracuse Hospice for 11 years. Frances and Robert moved back to Uniontown in 1992. Frances became a member of Grace Bible Class at Third Presbyterian Church, where she enjoyed driving people to the store and to doctor’s appointments. In 2015 she and her husband moved to the Masonic Village at Sewickley. She was active in the retired nurses group and a treasured friend at the Masonic Village until the time of her death.

Frances was an avid reader and enjoyed doing cross stitch, golfing, cross country skiing and hiking.

Left to cherish Frances’ memory are her children, Susan Breakwell (Mark), Linda Vanos (Steve) and Jim Breakwell (Shelley); brother, John Stevenson (Carol); grandchildren: Amie White (David), Alex Vanos (Casey), Ben Vanos (Hannah) and Jelina Lau-Lopez (Peter); and nine great-grandchildren.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the ANDREW D. FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORIES, INC., 80 Morgantown Street, Uniontown, where the family will receive family and friends from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29, followed by a service celebrating Frances’ life at 12 p.m. with Pastor Patrick Ewing officiating. Interment will follow in Howe’s Cemetery, Ronco.

Carol Sandra Close Sucevic

Smock

Carol Sandra Close Sucevic, 85 of Smock, passed peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, November 26, 2023.

She was born on October 17, 1938 in Detroit, Mich.. Carol is preceded in death by her father and mother, Floyd and Estelle Urban Close, her sister Gene Best and her former husband Paul T Sucevic. She is survived by her brother, David (Liz) Close; daughter, Michele Hajduk (Sam); sons, Paul (Jayme) Sucevic and David (Debbie) Sucevic; grandchildren, Michael Hajduk (Tammy), Thomas Sucevic, Amanda (Hajduk) Tretinik (Blake), and Abby and Lizzy Sucevic; great- grandchildren, Onika, Samuel and Karter Tretinik.

Carol was involved as a Den Mother for Saint Mary’s Cub Scouts, Queen Mother of Nana’s Red Hatters, and an avid quilter; who hand made hundreds of quits that she donated to Children’s Hospital.

Funeral arrangements by CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME in Hopwood. Services will be private to the family, only. If inclined you send flowers, please consider making a donation to Children’s Hospital, in memory of Carol, instead.

Adam Gerald Nehls

Uniontown

Adam Gerald Nehls, 36, of Uniontown, passed away Friday, November 24, 2023.

He was born September 8, 1987, in Pittsburgh, a son of Victoria White Nehls and the late Robert W. Nehls Jr.

Adam was a graduate of Uniontown High School Class of 2005, where he lettered in track, football, and was a band manager.

After high school, he attended California University of Pennsylvania and became a counselor at Adelphoi Village, Galeway Health, and Achieving True Self. He was very passionate about the work he did with each individual that he counseled.

Adam was an avid collector of TV and movie memorabilia from the 1980s and 90’. ALF, Thundercats, Critters, Fraggle Rock and Teddy Ruxpin were among his favorites to watch and collect. He also found joy working the daily crossword puzzles and riding his skate board. He worked hard to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle with a walk around the neighborhood or a workout at the gym.

Adam adored spending time with his nieces as he taught, guided, laughed and played with them. He always made himself available to offer support and encouragement whether it be from the sidelines at a sporting event or throughout life.

Adam is survived by his mother, Victoria White Nehls of Uniontown; brothers, Robert W. Nehls III (Jodi) of LaBelle, and Douglas S. Nehls (Amie) of Rogersville; nieces, Kaydence Marie Nehls, Ellie Grace Nehls and Emma Faith Nehls; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and his faithful companions, Tobey and Murray.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 29, and from 10 until the 11 a.m. hour of the funeral service Thursday, November 30, in the DONALD R. CRAWFORD FUNERAL HOME, Hopwood, with Pastor Cynthia Deter officiating.

Ersil Kahl

Fairchance

Ersil Kahl, 80, of Fairchance, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2023, in his home, with his loving family by his side.

He was born May 26, 1943, in Bruceton Mills, W.Va.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Everett Wade Kahl and Grace Marie Sumey Kahl; wife, Ethel McCullough Kahl; son, Chad Everett Wade Kahl; and brothers, Walter Lee Kahl and Everett Wade Kahl.

Surviving are two daughters, Susan Kahl and Samantha Jo Kahl; granddaughter, Andrea Elizabeth Grace Kahl; siblings, Linda Maust, Wanda Guthrie, Mary Coddington, Dave Kahl and Ellie Maust; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends and family from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the time of a funeral service, Wednesday, November 29, in the DEAN C. WHITMARSH FUNERAL HOME, 134 West Church Street, Fairchance, with Pastor Bryan Kelley officiating.

Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park, Brownfield.

Marlene R. Hunter

Keisterville

Marlene R. Hunter, 87, of Keisterville, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at her home.

She was born on May 24, 1936 in Keisterville, a daughter of the late William A. and Martha E. Forkin Blataric.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Hunter; and her son, Brian James Hunter.

Marlene was a graduate of Uniontown High School, Class of 1954. She was a homemaker and was previously employed for many years as a secretary to the Director of the Development Council. Marlene greatly enjoyed reading and her puzzle books.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Thomas Hunter and wife, Martha, and Joseph Hunter; daughter and caretaker, Lori Ann Hunter; grandchildren: Brianna Hunter, Sydney Hunter, and Joseph Z. Hunter; sisters, Patsy Petno and Bonnie (Martin) Jurisevic; three cats, Dora, Bob, and Pumpkin; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received in THE DEARTH FUNERAL HOME, 35 South Mill Street, New Salem, from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday. Interment at LaFayette Memorial Park will be private for her immediate family only.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marlene’s name and the donations will be used to replace the flag pole at the Keisterville Honor Roll.

Mary Frances Hixon, 80, of Lemont Furnace, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2023 at her home.

Dibrell Carroll Stewart

Uniontown

Dibrell Carroll Stewart, 92, passed away Tuesday, November 21, 2023, after a brief illness, in Uniontown. Dib, as he was known to family and friends, lived the latter half of his life in Masontown, where he had built and retired from a successful chain of laundry and dry- cleaning shops across Southwestern Pennsylvania.

Dib was born in Ida, Ark. August 21, 1931, the oldest of five siblings born to Leonard and Lucy Stewart, including Dibrell, Darrell, Norma Sue, Farrell and Harry.

He went to work as a pipefitter, welder and equipment operator at the age of 15. This career took him back and forth across the country, and that’s how he met his wife, Leoda Weimer.

They eventually settled in Masontown, where they raised and loved their large and extended family and spent summers and vacations camping and traveling with dear friends and family. Over the years, and after Leoda passed away in December 2000, grandchildren and great-grandchildren kept laughter and love in the home with Dib.

Dib was preceded in death by his mother, father and stepmother, Vonnie; his wife, Leoda Stewart; a daughter, Darla Opel; and two brothers, Farrell and Darrell.

He is survived by his children, Deborah Phillips, Sam Stewart (Rita), Chris Stewart (Eileen), Debbie Stewart, and Dave Stewart (Paula); grandchildren, Sammy Stewart, Sheila Stewart, Jerry Stewart, Rachael Stewart, Amanda Brown, Carl (Buddy) Opel, Zach Opel, Katie Stewart, Ashley Stewart, Jennifer Stewart, Jeanne, Jackie and Janice; several great- and great-great- grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, November 28, and from 10 until the 11 a.m. hour of service Wednesday, November 29, in the BERNARD M. TOWNSEND FUNERAL HOME, 220 South Main Street, Masontown, with Lay Speaker Sandra C. Townsend officiating. Interment will follow at Greene County Memorial Park Jefferson.

Valley Lodge #459 Free & Accepted Masons will hold a service at 7 p.m. Tuesday, with a service following at 8 p.m. by the Masontown Volunteer Fire Department.

Mary Frances Hixon, 80, of Lemont Furnace, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2023 at her home.

She was born in LaBelle, PA on May 7, 1943, a daughter of the late Emerson and Martha Ella Dixon Snyder.

Mary enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her family.

She was predeceased by husbands, Joseph Hixon Jr. and James Howard Sr.; son, John M. Howard and daughter Rhonda Howard; brothers, Gene Snyder, Emerson Snyder, John Snyder and Reckard Snyder; sisters, Ina Willingham and Mae Snyder.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Martha Delorenzo of Lemont Furnace, Jodi King of Lambert, Melissa (Robert) Brenzy of Masontown, James Howard, Jr. of McClellandtown; step-son, Sean Hixon; sisters, Judy Snyder of Hibbs, Delores Snyder of Uniontown, Deborah (Robert) Lewis of Lemont Furnace; brother, Charles Snyder of Shoaf; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Aura Burchianti Lozar, 99, of Masontown, passed away Sunday, November 19, 2023, in LaFayette Manor Nursing Home, Uniontown.

FUNERAL HOME, 7 River Avenue, Masontown, from 2 to 4 and 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 27, and from 9 until 9:30 a.m., when prayers of transfer will be said, Tuesday, November 28. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Parish Church, Masontown, with Father Dick Anthony Cortado as celebrant.

Interment follows at Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown.

Althea F. Moyer, 90, a resident of Rosy Hill, Lemont Furnace, passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2023, in her home.
