To uker til åpning: Hanne Friis

Hanne Friis was born in 1972 in Oslo and studied painting and sculpture at the Trondheim Academy of Art. Her textile sculptures are created with fabrics that are often dyed by her through experimentation and slow dyeing processes that give the material for her sculptures pictorial expressions of unpredictable effect. Using a strictly manual technique, Friis transforms a soft and fluffy material into abstract and sensual works, with a solid and complex structure that seem to be engaged in an autonomous, slow but inexorable process of perennial growth and change. As metaphors of the flow of life and the succession of events and phenomena that characterize it, her works are synthesis and representation of the ambiguity between form and matter.

Emotions Beneath The Surface

Arjun & Huishi were both international students in the US. "We decided to document our emotions about living away from home and represent it visually. For 30 days, we noted qualitative and quantitative parameters like how many times we called home, the number of times we tried to save money, and how often we switched to our native language. We visually represented this data as different parts of a dandelion."

DARKROOM

At the modern-day crossroads of Turkey and Syria, the neighborhood of Istasyon is taken over by children with cameras. Through their gaze, they transform cinder block villages into portals and roam freely across abandoned train tracks to Sirkhane Darkroom, an oasis of red light and pomegranate trees, where their images are born. Darkroom is an experimental and celebratory portrait of Istasyon’s youth and their capacity to forge an alternate reality within a conflict zone. Embedded in this vibrant 16mm film, a co-creation between the film crew and these photography students is a reverence for the mysterious power and intimacy of analog image-making.Starring - SIRKHANE DARKROOMAdditional Camera - STUDENTS AT SIRKHANE DARKROOM WORKSHOPSound Mixer - AIDAN REYNOLDSColorist - BRENNAN BARSELLProduced by - ASLI BAYKALGILLIAN GARCIARAF FELLNERExecutive Producer - ASLI BAYKALSERBEST SALIH

Jeppe Hein, Today I feel like …

Jeppe Hein’s workshop Today I feel like ... involves children takingpart in a series of simple breathing exercises, after which they will be askedto paint how they feel.By encouraging participants to pause and reflect on their emotions, Today I feel like... invites all of us––children and adults alike––to share our feelings more openly, ultimately leading to better mental health outcomes as well as a stronger sense of community.

A SHOT IN THE FOOT

"We shot an experimental fashion visualizer on 16mm & 35mm film. This project was originally conceptualized as a metaphor for my angst as a freelance artist, in all its chaos and uncertainty. I believe in powerful yet vulnerable storytelling for women, of women, and by women."The story follows an Asian girl assassin who operates only at night. She is quick and innovative, and what she does, she does best: she’s a killer. But she flies a bit too close to the sun; she grows careless, she parties too hard, and the thrill of the money eclipses the risk of danger. She gets sloppy, but the jobs keep coming, and there is no one except herself to clean up the mess she leaves behind.

The Jagged Drama of Clyfford Still’s Paintings

Sotheby’s Chairman Lisa Dennison explores the striking forms and chromatic intensity and of Clyfford Still’s PH144 (1947-Y-No.1). With its forceful combination of deep black, bright yellow and crimson red, this monumental work embodies everything that Still stood for as an artist and was notably selected by Still himself for inclusion in his seminal 1959 exhibition Paintings by Clyfford Still.
